Legally Blonde the Musical Information

Legally Blonde The Musical is the adaptation of Amanda Brown’s novel, as well as the 2001 film with Reese Witherspoon and Selma Blair. This musical version features two acts jam-packed with exciting music and lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin and intricate dance numbers choreographed by Jerry Mitchell.

The musical version is divided into two acts and incorporates most scenes and details from the movie script. The first act opens up to the night of Delta Nu sorority president, Elle Woods’, imminent engagement dinner with the dashing Warner Huntington the Third. During dinner, Warner informs Elle that he is breaking off their relationship in order to find a more serious student at Harvard Law School. Determined to show Warner they’re meant for each other, Elle picks herself up and marches into the Harvard admissions office with the entire UCLA marching band to prove why she is Harvard material.

Once at Harvard, Elle finds that several students disprove of her fashion style and opinions. She encounters situations such as being thrown out of class for being unprepared by Vivienne Kensington, who just happens to be Warner’s new girlfriend and future fiance, as well as being tricked into attending a “costume party.”

Finally, Elle puts her mind to the grindstrone and works on becoming a successful law student with or without Warner’s support. She lands a coveted internship position with Professor Callahan’s firm and ends up winning the trust of the accused, Brooke Wyndham. After being hit on by her successful professor, Elle nearly gives up on law school and relationships forever, but is convinced by Vivienne to look deep inside of herself to find the courage and knowledge she had all along. With a few new changes here and there, the musical is sure to elicite laughs and smiles as Elle Woods comically proves herself to be a lawyer….with excellent fashion!

During mid-June 2007, the musical hit an all time high, pulling in over one million dollars for the weekly Broadway grosses. The musical was also filmed for television and is planned to air on the MTV network by late September.
